Sake Breaking & Tasting — Kagami Biraki
A highlight of our New Year celebrations is the traditional sake barrel breaking ceremony known as Kagami Biraki, meaning “Opening the Mirror.” This symbolic act marks a fresh start and invites good fortune for the year ahead. After the barrel is opened, guests are welcome to enjoy a tasting of the sake—an uplifting way to begin the new year in the snowy heart of Hokkaido.

Taiko Drumming Performance
Our celebrations also feature the powerful rhythms of Taiko drumming, performed by the renowned Yotei Taiko group. Taiko is a centuries-old Japanese percussion art, known for its dynamic movements and resonant sound. The performance brings a vibrant cultural energy to the evening, making it a memorable highlight for international travellers and returning guests alike.

Mochi for All Guests
As part of the festivities, locally made mochi will be offered at both locations. This traditional New Year treat symbolises prosperity and good health for the year ahead — a perfect way to welcome 2026 with your loved ones.
