Furano Flower Fields

Renowned for its postcard-perfect lavender fields and rolling flower landscapes, Furano in Hokkaido is a must-visit summer destination in Japan. Stretching across Kamifurano, Nakafurano, and the picturesque town of Biei, this region comes alive from late June through August, when vibrant blooms paint the fields in brilliant shades of purple, pink, red and gold.

Beyond its floral allure, visitors are treated to sweeping panoramic views of the Tokachi Mountain range as well as serene sights of the Furano Basin, creating a dreamy escape into nature. With each season bringing a fresh burst of colour, Furano offers a captivating experience that changes throughout the green season, making it perfect for return visits, photographers, and nature lovers alike.

During summer, Salvia and petunias grace the fields with their long-lasting blooms in Furano, while lavender — beloved for its fragrance and deep purple hue — also enjoys an extended flowering season. Depending on the variety and location, some lavenders bloom later in the summer, offering a staggered display of colour. Farm Tomita: This must-visit tourist destination is known for its lavender fields during summer. Besides lavender fields, it offers lavender-flavoured ice-cream and drinks, along with a variety of soaps and potpourri that are perfect as souvenirs of your trip.

Flowerland Kamifurano: As part of their visit, visitors can enjoy a 15-minute tractor ride while taking in the scenery. This popular flower-viewing spot showcases not only lavender but also changing displays of lupines, marigolds, and other flowers against the backdrop of the stunning Tokachi Mountain Range.

Kanno Farm: Unlike typical farms, this venue grows a variety of crops alongside its flowers, offering visitors colourful scenery to be enjoyed throughout the summer until the harvest period rolls around. Explore a vibrant mix of flowers from various potato varieties, alongside corn and gourmet potatoes that are harvested on-site.

Shikisai no Oka: This captivating attraction is also fondly described as the “Hills of Colour”. Shikisai no Oka unfolds across Biei’s gentle hills in a radiant mosaic of seasonal blooms. This expansive flower garden invites visitors to soak in the panoramic views aboard the charming Norokko train, navigate the fields in a buggy, or enjoy a leisurely ride in a touring cart; all while surrounded by a kaleidoscope of colour.

Zerubu Hill: Explore a vibrant flower field that showcases around 30 exquisite varieties, from golden sunflowers and delicate poppies to lovely lavender. In bloom from May through October, it's a seasonal symphony of colour and scent. For the most enchanting view, head to the observation platform and take in the views of the flower fields.
