Niseko is one of the world’s premier ski destinations, renowned for its exceptional powder snow, scenic natural landscape and vibrant après-ski culture.
Why is Niseko so popular in winter? The Niseko United ski area comprises four interconnected resorts — Grand Hirafu, Hanazono, Niseko Village, and Annupuri — each offering its own distinct charm and terrain.
Together, these four resorts create a seamless skiing experience connected by lifts and trails, all set against the majestic backdrop of Mount Yotei, often referred to as the Mount Fuji of Hokkaido.
Set amidst the stunning landscapes of Hokkaido, Rusutsu is a world-class, all-season destination celebrated for its abundant powder snow, wide-open runs, and family-friendly atmosphere.
Why visit Rusutsu in winter? Just a 90-minute drive from Sapporo, Rusutsu offers an unforgettable ski experience across three interconnected mountains—West, East, and Mount Isola—providing over 42km of pristine slopes suitable for all skill levels.
Rusutsu Resort’s myriad facilities also make it a top choice for skiers seeking a more relaxed alternative to Niseko.

Frequently Asked Questions
Get right onto the slopes from the ski room. The ski-in ski-out properties by NISADE | The Luxe Nomad offer direct access to the Ace Family Lift in Upper Hirafu. This makes it especially convenient for families and beginners; it becomes so much easier carrying gear, navigating between accommodation and lifts.
On top of that, the ski valet service at Niseko Kyo ensures that all you have to do after the slopes is to enjoy après-ski within the comforts of the condo hotel. Grab drinks and food at MASONRY. Japan at Niseko Kyo, and enjoy Singapore-inspired noodles at Roketto and wood-fired pizzas at Ristorante Pizzeria R Niseko in The Maples Niseko. More dining options can be found in the lively Hirafu Village, just a short walk from the ski-in ski-out properties by NISADE | The Luxe Nomad.
Similarly, the award-winning The Vale Rusutsu offers a great location to ski in and ski out right off the mountain. Named the World’s Best New Ski Hotel in 2021 and Japan’s Best Ski Hotel in 2024, the condo hotel enjoys proximity to restaurants, shops and other attractions at Rusutsu Resort. Guests staying at The Vale Rusutsu also enjoy access to the Kotobuki no Yu onsen; just perfect for a relaxing soak in the soothing hot spring waters after a day on the slopes.
Yes. Niseko and nearby Rusutsu both offer a wide range of slopes from beginner to advanced, so even novices will find runs appropriate for learning. Even tumbles will land soft, on the area’s famed powder snow.
A good first day: take a lesson, use gentle beginner slopes, rent your gear and pace yourself. First-timers should plan one or two rest/non-ski days: enjoy the local food, soak in the village atmosphere and relax in hot spring waters of an onsen.
Accommodation is in high demand during ski season, and should be booked in advance, followed by lift passes, ski or snowboard lessons and equipment rental. Travel insurance covering winter sport is also strongly recommended.
The Guest Services team at NISADE | The Luxe Nomad can help arrange for airport transfers, book lessons and guides, plus organise gear rental and ski valet to make your winter vacation feel so effortless.
Winter season typically runs mid December through April in these resorts. Peak snow and powder conditions are often in mid-winter (January–February) but also attracts many guests then; so booking early is wise!
For a first-time skier: ski or snowboard, boots, poles (if skiing), helmet (strongly recommended), gloves, ski jacket and pants (waterproof), plus warm base layers, goggles, neck warmer/face mask and sunscreen.
In Niseko/Rusutsu you’ll get cold and snowy conditions, so thermal and waterproof gear matter. Rental shops at the resort will supply skis and boards, boots, poles, helmets — you can book ahead via Guest Services.
Both are good. Niseko is extremely popular, well-developed, with plenty of options for dining, nightlife and many slope choices. If you prefer less crowded slopes, The Vale Rusutsu is a true ski-in ski-out property just beside Rusutsu Resort.
Both Niseko and Rusutsu deliver beginner-friendly terrain. Choose based on your budget, travel logistics and preferred accommodation by NISADE | The Luxe Nomad.
