The best places on the mountain for beginner skiers and snowboarders to improve their skills and start exploring Niseko.
There's plenty of hidden gems scattered around Niseko's Grand Hirafu village that make it worth exploring. Quaint souvenir shops, apres ski bars and of course a massive selection of food and restaurants from all areas of the globe. When it comes to discovering some of the most amazing food, Roketto ロケット located in The Maples Niseko, stands out from the crowd.
A casual lunch noodle bar by day, with an excellent location just off "Family Run" in Grand Hirafu, making it a great spot to stop by for food while out on the slopes. However what a lot of people don't know is that Roketto hosts a secret dinner at night. Owner and head chef Willin Low is a well established chef from Singapore, who has brought years of experience with him to Niseko to create a truly exceptional dinner experience.
The menu is "Omakase", which is Japanese for 'selected by the chef'. The 10 courses are a symphony of Japanese inspired dishes with a mix of southeast Asian flavour. But what really sets the secret dinner apart is how the evening is turned into a synchronised journey for all guests, guided by Willin himself. This is achieved by:
The limited quantity of guests allows for a connection between chef and customer, which is something Willin takes full advantage of. In doing so, he is able to guide you on a journey through the evening, while giving insight into the mind of a renowned chef. Seating all guests at the same time allows for the dishes to be served at the same time, which puts everyone in the room on the same wavelength. This creates an atmosphere like no other.
Every dish on the menu is a conversation starter, as Willin introduces it as it is being served. He explains the thought process behind the meal, the ingredients and where they are from, the flavours you're about to taste and the place the intention of the dish. This builds a suspense for the entire room before taking the first bite and allows for time to appreciate the effort put into the food before you. Each dish has been carefully engineered to evoke emotion and the entire room feels this at the exact same time.
There are plenty of high-end dining options in Niseko, however the secret dinner at Roketto ロケット is truly a one-of-a-kind experience. Willin and the team have designed their secret dinner to ignite emotions in a completely different way, leaving the guest with a unique evening they won't soon forget.
Note: We highly recommend booking dinner with Roketto as far in advance as possible, especially during peak season. The limited quantity of seats per evening means they are often booked out weeks ahead.
